Yesterday we stocked up the boat with last minute things we need for our trip. Mostly fresh food, as Galveston is well-stocked with everything else already.
Unfortunately our boat’s still in the wet dock, as the boatyard is waiting for a delivery of replacement rubber engine mounts. This was one of the recommendations from the survey, and since Galveston was bobbing about, waiting for Jez the signwriter to have a free slot this week, we agreed to get a few things sorted.
Having to wait is frustrating, as we’re all ready and itching to go. We need to be back in Oxford towards the end of July, and don’t want to rush our boat journey. We did spend the day wisely, however, as we’ve now booked our ferry to Europe and have a rough plan of the route from Calais to Verona. At least we’ve got another fixed date in the diary for later this summer.
The flip-side of not being on the boat is that Steve and I will go to Oxford tomorrow morning for mayday celebrations. The atmosphere is always worth the early start, as thousands of (mostly young) people gather on the High Street to listen to the choir on Magdalen Tower sing in the May, followed by Morris dancers and other revellers making merry around the medieval colleges in the centre of the city.
